I am very pleased to announce that on the weekend of January 4th we will host Senior Rabbi candidate Rabbi Scott Shafrin at Adath Israel. The search committee is putting together a schedule for the weekend so that congregants will have the opportunity to interact with Rabbi Shafrin and provide feedback on their impressions online. The main opportunity for the congregation to meet him and see him in action will be at Friday night services and Shabbat morning services with a discussion after lunch. There will also be a webpage created with information about Rabbi Shafrin. I know many people are getting ready to head out of town for winter break so please put this on your calendar. There will be more details to follow.
Rabbi Shafrin currently serves as the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) Executive Director in St. Louis. Previously he has served as the Associate Rabbi and Religious School Director of the Conservative congregation Kol Rinah in the St. Louis area. He has previously served as Rabbi-in-Residence at The Epstein School, a Solomon Schechter Day School in the Atlanta metro area and simultaneously worked as a rabbinic partner at Congregation Etz Chaim in Marietta, GA. He is an avid musician and singer. A Milwaukee, WI native and graduate of Brandeis University, Rabbi Shafrin has deep experience in community organizing. He received a M.A. Ed. from the Fingerhut School of Education and rabbinic ordination from the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, both housed within the American Jewish University in Los Angeles. Rabbi Shafrin and his wife, Rabbi Jessica Shafrin, have two sons.
