The State of Ohio added a special election on August 8th to vote on Issue 1. If it passes, Issue 1 will raise the percentage of votes needed to add an amendment to the Ohio constitution from 50% to 60%.
We successfully collected more than enough signatures to add an amendment for reproductive rights on the November ballot. The signatures were submitted to Ohio and are currently being certified. For over 100 years, the amount of votes needed to pass a constitutional amendment in Ohio was 50% plus one. If Issue 1 passes, it will change the threshold to 60% making it significantly more difficult to pass a constitutional amendment, such as the upcoming reproductive rights amendment that will likely be on the November ballot.
The Adath Israel Advocacy Committee asks:
1. Make sure you are registered to vote by July 10th.
2. Vote NO on Issue 1 on August 8th.
The Rabbinical Assembly is the international association of Conservative/Masorti rabbis. They have provided this resource page with many of their statements about reproductive freedom and Judaism:
